F Posterity is back in black, yes friends, I'm let loose from the noose that's kept me hangin' around. I had a few ideas of what I'd publish today, and I recorded some, but looking over a track I had recorded previously, I'm feeling the feel of that one much more today. At the time, I didn't know how it struck me, and you kinda have to let it sit and percolate, as Robert Johnson once said of his pregnant wife.
These demos, ragged though they may be, are developing more with production, as I throw the sloppy-licious drum track over and maybe a few other instruments or harmonies. And with a future solo album I'm anticipating, I have a number of jazz-ish songs that I haven't really known what to make of, much like "Corned Beef Hash" on the last.
The song today is one of those, a smoky ballad-y thing entitled "Troubling". I think in writing this, I was stretching somewhat towards the old-time kind of songwriting of Gershwin, that straightforward kind of tell a story, say something songwriting. I'm still unsettled on the lyrics, and I imagine these will change before I record an album version of it.
This music I've had around for a few years, when I had it in mind to fill out a song about a girlfriend. Somehow I never could fit lyrics to it for that purpose, probably because she was waiting for it. There's a sure way to cramp an artist's style - get frustrated when he doesn't write something about you.
